Spring 2025

Chedister Burn

The PBA started off the Spring season with a 1 acre burn off of Hwy 2 near Merrit. 10 people participated in the burn. Ignitions went well and the unit was pretty much out within a few days. The landowner has been one of the most committed participants to the PBA and it felt good to get some black on their property. The landowner treated everyone to tasty snacks from the Squirrel Tree restaurant at Coles Corner.

Blue Sky Burn

Take 2…. After being shut down by wind the week before the crew came back out on a calm sunny day and pulled off a successful 3 acre burn. In the end; the landowners were pleased with the delay as it allowed for more fuel to dry out and better consume the fuels. This also added to a bit more fire intensity to top kill a lot of the brush. Large stumps in this unit smoldered for a few days and it was declared out 10 days after ignitions.

Hill Burn

It wasn’t even a month earlier that baby Sawyer was born into the Hill family and he was already out on the fire line with momma laying down a little drip mix! This burn was the final one of the Spring season and it was a goodie. 13 people came out to participate and a big thank you to several members from Team Rubicon. The USFS also came out to observe and get in on the BBQ. This was a really fascinating burn for all of the participants as it was in a heavily forested area with pockets of heavier slash material. The ignitions team kept a backing fire moving through the heavier zones helping to limit intensity. The landowners and all participants were very pleased with how the fire carried through the unit and consumed lots of fuel. This unit had lots of vine maple and we are all curious to see what of it survives and how it comes or doesn’t comeback.
